Mountain lake pearls in the Upper Engadine
Taking a dip in one of the Upper Engadin's mountain lakes in summer is a special experience - and a refreshing one at that. Here we present a few gems.
Lej Aratsch
Lej Aratsch is located near the Morteratsch campsite. It is fed by the Montebello stream and is rather cool for swimming, even on warm days. It can be reached, for example, by bus from the Pontresina Post bus stop to the Morteratsch junction, from where you can continue on foot.
Lake Sils
Lake Sils has beautiful bathing spots, for example in the bays of the Chastè peninsula (plant conservation area). There are picnic areas and fire pits nearby. A lovely excursion, even for those who don't want to swim.
Lej Marsch
Lej Marsch is one of the most popular bathing lakes in the Engadin. Bathers benefit from the sheltered location. There is a small beach on the northern shore. There is also a jetty, barbecue areas, toilets and showers. In fine weather, the lake is 20-21 degrees warm. It is located near the Olympic ski jump car park.
Lake Staz - the highest lido in the world
The idyllic Lej da Staz invites you to swim in a clearing in the Staz forest between Pontresina and St. Moritz - it is probably one of the oldest alpine bathing lakes and the highest lido in the world. It can be reached by bike in 20 minutes or on foot in around 45 minutes. There is also a children's playground and barbecue areas.
